Harnessing Your Human Nature for Success with Robert Greene

Today we welcome back on the show the 6x international bestselling author, Robert Greene.  Robert has had huge impact in my life with books like Mastery, 48 Laws of Power, and the 33 Strategies of War. And in this episode we go deep on his newest book – and my new favorite – The Laws of Human Nature, a brilliant consolidation of the various theories on human nature – how to better understand them and use them to grow. We dive deep into: You are a lot weirder than you think you are. WE ALL ARE in fact. We’re repressing so many sides of who we are – most often without even knowing it. We’re trying to stand out.  We’re trying to fit in. The stuff we repress and try to hide are like a stranger within us.  Knowing all this – and how to navigate it – gives us personal power. It it possible to harness our “dark side” for increased creativity, wisdom, strength and character? Robert argues that, not only is it something worth tapping into, it’s THE source of power missing in your life. Robert’s recent near-death experience has given him a profound sense of gratitude, how it has compelled […]

Don’t Let Fear Decide Your Future with Tabatha Coffey

Tabatha Coffey is an Australian entrepreneur and TV personality. Her no-nonsense approach and savvy business mind inspires us to take charge of our lives, and – most importantly – make the tough decisions required for us to live the lives we were meant to live. I recently took a class from Tabatha called How to be Bold, Resilient & Better Than Ever and I was very impressed. So impressed that I managed to share some of my favorite parts of the class here with you. In this episode, Tabatha delivers some great, hard-hitting truths around fear, heart, and mindset. We also cover: How so many of the stories we tall ourselves are exactly what’s  holding us back. Tabatha helps us recognize those stories. Fear is a lot of things. Of course it’s stress and worry, but it can also be a barometer for action. How our stories become a self-fulfilling prophecy. How to flip the fear script and build better resiliency against our unhealthy thoughts This is a phenomenal episode I hope you’ll love. [And – small tip- If any of this resonates, the full class is avail on CreativeLive.com  – How to be Bold, Resilient & Better Than Ever] Enjoy […]

On the show, we dive into reinvention, overcoming addiction and depression, explore plant based diets, and his spiritual calling… We also cover: After a decade of living what he though the “American dream of success” was, he found himself miserable and in a career that he pursued because he thought that’s what we should do. He shares his journey OUT OF THE MESS… and advice for pursuing what our hearts tell us. We cover parenting and helping to develop agency in our kids and future generations – to leave the planet better off than we found it. The Workshop Experience

I’m currently in the final stretch of this pregnancy and I’m working hard to get my to-do list done!!! Highlighting these two workshops is something that I have been wanting to do for quite some time but it’s taken me some time to actually get it done!

I have to say, these two workshop were two of the most memorable and joyful ones that we have ever hosted! Maybe it was because we knew that these were our final workshops for a while or maybe it was just because our home was filled with the most amazing people…. maybe it was a combination of the two. We are currently in a season where our family is growing and we know that in this season, workshops have come to a close. We still use our home for industry events and client gatherings and many other things, but for right now, we’ve closed the doors to workshops and it has been an amazing journey that has brought us to this point!

I have to say a HUGE thank you to our team….

Michael, Emy, Momma (Mimi), Bobbi (Grammie), Morgan (Momo) and Claire!! You all make this process so much fun and you take so much stress off of me!! You were a gift to all of us!

KAT…. you are a lifesaver! Kat Schmoyer of Dear Sweetheart Events designed and planned not one but BOTH styled shoots and this was such a blessing to us! I love working with talented friends!! We had past clients as models for both shoots and it felt like one big reunion seeing everyone!! We even had past KJ Brides as bridesmaids!!! It was just the best!!

Meet group one!! These women are from all over the country and I just love them!! They filled our home with so much joy!! It’s so amazing that after just 48 hours together, you can start to feel like a family!!  Evy was so tiny!!!! That Romper doesn’t even fit!  This shoot was just gorgeous! Evy’s Nursery

We gradually overcame that season, and then about the time we felt like we were getting back into the normal swing of things I found out that I was pregnant with James. Then we lost him at 31 weeks, and three months later I was pregnant again. Whew.

So really, I should just be proud that this post even exists and that Evy’s nursery was completed in the midst of all of those ups and downs!

I LOVE everything home decor, but our season of life has really kept me from being able to share much about our new home and what we have done with the place!! Evy’s room has been a work in progress for a while. I started with a neutral/wooden/baby pink theme and then found pieces one by one to make her room feel complete. I love that her mirror, her chandelier, her lamp and her dresser are all a similar wood grain and the crib is different! So often I feel like people think all of their finishes need to be EXACTLY the same, and it can really make a room feel redundant without any transitions!

These polka dots are from Urban Walls and let’s be honest, they are just stickers!! So easy! The curtains and chandelier were a splurge from Restoration Hardware. The mirror is from Pottery Barn (and the Crib, but it was a gift from Grammie and Paw!). The ladder shelf was bought years ago from Joss and Main, and the lamb rocker was a gift from Aunt Susan and is from Pottery Barn Kids! The Rocker is from Wayfair and the ottoman is super old from Homegoods!! The dresser is Pottery Barn Kids and the faux olive tree is from Amazon of all places! The book shelves are from IKEA and the picture frames are from West Elm! Whew! See why it took me a while to gather this stuff!!! Well, despite the delay of it all coming together, I love the way it turned out. It’s peaceful and bright, and Evy calls it “Evy’s House”!!!

Enjoy a little peek into Evy’s space! Oh and PS. That floral watercolor painting is something that I created for Evy’s room! It stressed me out and so I don’t think I’ll be doing that for baby boy’s nursery!! ha! However, the other “Everly James Alsop” watercolor that looks professionally done? That was done by Grammie, Michael’s mom!!!! She also made one for Baby James and we cherish these sweet gifts!

Diversifying Creativity with TONL

By working to highlight a diverse set of narratives from under represented populations, Joshua Kissi and Karen Okonkwo — two of Inc Magazine’s 30 Under 30 — are addressing a huge gap in the creative market.   Karen was at Arizona State University when she decided to start a blog for sorority women. It gained immediate attention. Yet, when a friend asked why there wasn’t any African Americans showcased on the site, she was defensive. As an African American herself, she thought – of course we do! But as she pulled out her phone and started scrolling through the site, she realized her friend was right. She had fallen into the subconsciously biased, racially one-sided trap. Desperately focused on change, she began to showcase all types of women of color, sexual orientation, and under represented groups on her site. But she had a sense she was not doing enough.   This work caught the attention of  the Ghanian-American fashion, lifestyle, and brand photographer Joshua Kissi, and together they co-created TONL a photography and media agency focused on creating images of diverse people and sharing their stories with the world.  Enjoy this inspirational, heartfelt and meaningful story of self reflection, discovery, creativity, and action, as […]
